Oracle's RDBMS Evaluation in Full GearCome Join Us!
The Computing Facilities Branch (CFB) has made the Oracle RDBMS server on MVS available for evaluation (see the articles in INTERFACE 193 and 195). Multiple users are currently involved in this project, and users who have not yet signed up for this evaluation are encouraged to join us now. Participation is to your advantage: user input will determine the features that will be supported and maintained on the central Oracle RDBMS server.
This server will free users from setting up and maintaining their own local RDBMS servers. Users will be able to create their own tables, store their own data, create stored procedures, and develop applications. In addition, ICDs that need to supplement the IMPAC II grants data will be able to easily and transparently combine their own data with IMPAC II data. Beyond these advantages, the Oracle RDBMS has the potential to enhance data sharing among ICDs.
Access to this centrally administered Oracle RDBMS server is available both via client/server and online 3270-based connectivity. CFB will work with users to investigate various options for client/server connectivity, including integrating Web applications with the Oracle RDBMS.
To get started, contact CFB's Database Technologies Unit at (301) 496-9158.
