William Risso Named Acting Director of DCRT

William L. Risso has been named Acting Director of the National Institutes of Health's Division of Computer Research and Technology (DCRT) by Dr. Harold Varmus, Director of NIH. The appointment became effective April 1, 1996 following the retirement of Dr. David Rodbard (see "DCRT Director David Rodbard Retires, Joins AAMC" in the last issue of INTERFACE).

Mr. Risso has served as Assistant Director and, for the past five years, as Deputy Director of DCRT, making major contributions to efforts to reengineer the NIH's business processes. Earlier in his NIH career, as a hardware and software design engineer in a variety of labs and clinics, Mr. Risso worked on early computerized axial tomography (CAT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scanners, patient monitoring computer systems, and early computer networks.

DCRT welcomes Mr. Risso to his new role as Acting Director and offers him its full support. The Division is fortunate to have a person of his experience and ability leading the organization during this transitional period.
