DCRT's Recent Software Licensing Agreement with SAS Benefits Users
The Division of Computer Research and Technology (DCRT) has recently entered into a new contract with SAS Institute, Inc., under which SAS will provide software licenses and new software products—for the mainframe, PCs, and Macintoshes. Also under the agreement, SAS will provide software updates, documentation, technical support, and training.
The agreement has allowed us to keep the price to the user at the current level. DCRT provides the SAS products to authorized PC and Mac users for an annual fee of $600. This is far less than the $5,600 a user would pay to get these products and documentation directly from SAS Institute, Inc. The significant savings per user is possible because of the volume of sales. Another result is that DCRT is able to provide users with more and advanced training by SAS at no additional cost.
We want to remind our users that NIH policy requires proper registration and licensing of software products, and we urge users to abide by this policy and register for SAS products.
This policy is to the users'—and NIH's—long-term advantage. Inappropriate use of these software products, by other than authorized users, could affect future user fees and availability of no-cost training.
Registering is very easy. New users, wishing to acquire and register for SAS products, should call TASC at 594-DCRT. When the password of a current user expires, the Technical Information Office will provide a new password after the $600 annual registration fee has been paid.
Mainframe Software
Base SAS, SAS/AF, SAS/ASSIST, SAS/C, SAS/CALC, SAS/CONNECT, SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2, SAS/ACCESS Interface to Oracle, SAS/ETS, SAS/FSP, SAS/GRAPH, SAS/IML, SAS/INSIGHT, SAS/OR, SAS/QC, SAS/SHARE, SAS/STAT, SAS/TOOLKIT, and SAS/TUTOR.
Support for mainframe software is limited to authorized mainframe users employed by the federal government (NIH or non-NIH) and to representatives of organizations that are under contract to perform government work.
PC and Macintosh Software
Base SAS, SAS/AF, SAS/ASSIST, SAS/CALC, SAS/CONNECT, SAS/EIS, SAS/FSP, SAS/GRAPH, SAS/TUTOR, Fundamentals of the SAS System (CBT 101), SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC File Formats, SAS/STAT, SAS/IML, SAS/INSIGHT, and SAS/LAB.
Support for PC and Macintosh software is limited to individuals employed by NIH (NIH only, not government in general) and to representatives of organizations that are under contract to perform NIH work.
