New MVS/ESA Operating System To Be Installed
CFB plans to install a new release of the MVS/ESA operating system—OS/390 Version 2, Release 4—for the NIH Computer Center’s MVS North and South systems. This level of the MVS operating system has many new enhancements and is Year 2000 compliant. We expect to migrate to OS/390 (2.4) during the next nine months.
Ensure That Third-Party Software Will Still Function
All North and South MVS systems users and customers who have installed third-party software on these systems should contract their vendors to ensure that such software will be supported and can still function in this new MVS operating system environment.
A Web site for this operating system has been established by IBM. We recommend you go to the webpage http://www.s390.ibm.com/os390 and look at the link, "Vendor Applications Compatibility with OS/390."
Please read future issues of Interface for updates on the status of this migration.
