OnNet—A 32-Bit Upgrade to Be Available Soon

A 32-bit upgrade to replace PC/TCP and OnNet—which are 16-bit products—will be available on April 6, 1998. This is the final upgrade provided by the NIH Computer center for the copies that were distributed to its users. TLCs who have registered copies of PC/TCP or OnNet on their LANs can replace them with this software even if they choose not to renew the maintenance license for the copies that were transferred to them. (See the accompanying article "OnNet Licenses Now Belong to the TLCs.")

Since FTP Software Inc. has changed how it packages network software, this upgrade consists of two products "Network Access Suite" and "Secure Client."

•        Network Access Suite v3.0 for
         Windows 95 and Windows NT

This product contains the networking applications such as Telnet, FTP, TN3270. The FTP application in Network Access Suite will not work correctly for anonymous FTP from the IBM/MVS System. A patch has been developed to solve this problem when accessing the MVS system running over TCPaccess 4.1 (see the article "New Version of TCPaccess" in this issue). •        Secure Client v3.0 for Windows 95 This provides a TCP/IP protocol stack.

An LPD print server is not provided as one of the applications in the Network Access Suite. If a 32-bit LPD is needed, the LPD from OnNet32 version 1 will be provided.

Software Will Be Available via the Web in April

The software, the FTP patch, and the LPD are all available through the Web starting April 6, 1998. The downloads, along with more information about Network Access Suite and Secure Client—as well as about their installation and configuration—can be found at http://silk.nih.gov/silk/ftpsw.
