Development Job Class to be Available on MVS Systems August 1

A new batch job class—class H—will be available for large jobs August 1 on the MVS South and MVS North systems. This new class is intended to allow development work during the day, without interfering with production applications (e.g., TSO, WYLBUR, DB2, SILK Web, and all other job classes) and without incurring large charges. The new H job class will run at the discount rate (60% on the South system and 50% on the North).

To qualify for the H job class—and receive the discount rate—the job must:

· use at least 5 minutes (300 seconds) of CPU time

· not use tapes

Class H jobs that do not meet these minimum criteria will be charged the full rate.

The MVS system will run H class jobs during the day at the discount rate only when unused capacity exists. These jobs will run at lower priority than other job classes with no turnaround time guarantees, so as not to degrade performance on production work.
