Changes to Libraries Coming July 12In preparation for our future migration to the OS/390 operating system on the MVS South system, the Language Environment run-time library SYS1.SCEERUN will be added to the system LINKLIST on the July 12, 1998. This system change has been tested and should be transparent to users.
This run-time library contains modules for the programming languages COBOL, PL1, C/C++ and FORTRAN. In the past this library has been accessed through a STEPLIB. By placing these modules in the LINKLIST, they are already in memory when user's jobs request themproviding a performance enhancement over STEPLIB.
The NIH Computer Center procedures will be modified on Monday, July 13, to reflect this change. If you do not use the NIH procedures and currently have any STEPLIBs in your JCL pointing to SYS1.SCEERUN, you should remove them on or after July 13 to take advantage of the performance improvements.
At this time also, the library SYS1.SIBMLINKwhich is a run-time library for the old OS/VS version 2.3 PL1will be removed from the LINKLIST.
If you notice any problem, please contact TASC so that we can work with you to resolve it.
