SCRC Is Closing at the End of June
Since opening in May 1992, the Scientific Computing Resource Center (SCRC) has provided the NIH scientific community a walk-in facility where campus scientists could evaluate hardware and software, as well as receive hands-on instruction and assistance. The SCRC has provided support in computational and mathematical biology, as well as image processing, statistical data analysis, mathematical analysis, desktop publishing, and Web site development (including the NIH homepage).
During the past eight years, SCRC has also collaborated on mission-critical projects with scientists; developed training courses and symposia that would otherwise have been prohibitively expensive; and played an active role in keeping the NIH intramural research community up-to-date on the products available for biomedical research. In short, SCRC provided the scientific community with capabilities beyond the reach of many labs.
Constraints on funding and other resources have led CIT to close the facility. SCRC will permanently close at noon on Friday, June 30, 2000. SCRC staff members will be assigned other duties and will no longer be available for consultation and user support after June 30. Current collaborative projects that involve SCRC staff members, however, will continue after the closing of SCRC but will be reviewed before future commitments are made.
Do You Have Files on SCRC Servers?
After June 30, SCRC workstations, printers, scanners, and file servers will no longer be available. Prior to June 30, we recommend that users retrieve their files stored on the Macintosh and PC servers (Workspace and Workspace-2), as well as on the Silicon Graphics workstations (Grapejuice and Manta).
