Rebate for SILK/Shadow Direct CPU Charges Set to Expire October 2007
As reported in the Interface #236 article CIT to Begin Charging for SILK and Shadow Direct CPU, and as noted in the NIH Data Center Rates for fiscal year 2007, CIT began charging for the CPU time used by Secure Internet-LinKed (SILK) Web technology and Shadow Direct as of October 2006. However, in order to give customers time to adjust to this change, CIT opted to rebate 100% of the SILK/Shadow Direct CPU charges for the fiscal year 2007.
Since October 2006, customer invoices have shown the SILK/Shadow Direct charges as part of the Interactive charges, including a new line on the invoice showing the amount of the temporary rebate.
The rebate expires October 2007
Starting October 2007, the rebate will no longer apply and the invoice will reflect the full charge for SILK/Shadow Direct CPU usage. If you haven't taken the opportunity so far to monitor your SILK/Shadow Direct usage and to plan accordingly, please consider doing so now, as the rebate is set to expire in six months.
How the rates are calculated
Charges for SILK/Shadow Direct are calculated per user, per day. The rates for SILK/Shadow Direct are as follows:
| Up to 1.70 CPU seconds (per CPU second) | $ | 2.77 |
| 1.71 to 4.26 CPU seconds (per CPU second) | $ | 2.53 |
| 4.27 to 34.10 CPU seconds (per CPU second) | $ | 1.17 |
| Over 34.10 CPU seconds (per CPU second) | $ | .59 |
