Adabas Support to Be Discontinued
The NIH Data Center will discontinue support for Adabas in October 2006. Although this was a difficult decision, the costs related to running the application on upgraded equipment, as well as decreased use of the software, have made support of Adabas no longer feasible.
In October, CIT is scheduled to receive a new mainframe processor and, a few months after that, will also be upgrading the mainframe operating system (see the Titan News article of August 31, 2006).
The increased costs associated with maintaining Adabas on the new IBM z9 mainframe processor, along with the declining number of Adabas customers, unfortunately mean that the NIH Data Center will no longer be able to support Adabas when the new processor is installed in October. All Adabas application owners have been notified and are in the process of moving their applications.
