Titan 3490 Stand-Alone Tape Drives to Be Retired as of May 13, 2012
On May 13, 2012, CIT will retire the Titan 3490 stand-alone tape drives. The fact that not a single customer used the drives in the last year demonstrates that the 3490-type tape drives are obsolete.
Expected impact
Since the overwhelming majority of our customers have been using virtual tape processing for years, little or no impact is expected with this change. If you have foreign tape processing requirements after May 13, 2012, please contact the NIH IT Service Desk at http://itservicedesk.nih.gov/support/ or call 301-496-HELP (301-496-4357), 866-319-4357 (toll free), or 301-496-8294 (TTY).
Note: After May 13, 2012, customers will be responsible for ensuring that foreign tapes brought to the NIH Data Center for Titan processing are 9840-type tape cartridges compatible with StorageTek/SUN/Oracle SL8500 Automated Tape Library.
