South CustomersA New Tape Management Tool Is Available
Web Tapea new Web interface to the South tape libraryis now available to help South customers manage their tapes in preparation for a move to Titan. With Web Tape users can display information on their tapes, release them, or identify which tapes are ready to move to Titan. Web Tape can display the volume serial number, the number and names of the data sets, the date created, the date last mounted and the type of tape.
When designating tapes to be moved to Titan, you will be able to specify a new name for each data set.
Tapes Not Used Since 1997
Tapes that have not been used since the current tape management system was installed in 1997 do not have data set information available on them. To find out the number and names of the data sets on these tapes, you will need to pick Web Tape's option to run a "Tapescan" on the tape to populate the tape inventory with this information.
Tape Data Set Names
In cases where your tape data set names do not currently begin with an account/initials pair, you will be required to rename them.
If your data sets do not begin with your own account initials, you may want to rename themsince Titan tapes are "owned" and charged according to the userid of the first data set on each tape.
Tape data is protected by RACF on Titan, so in addition to determining who is to be charged for the tape, the userid of the first data set will also determine access to the tape. More information on RACF access to data is available on the Web.
Web Tape is listed on the SILK Web page.
